OREGONIA, OHIO – May 29, 2019 – The end of June marks a busy time at Fort Ancient. Visitors will have an opportunity to participate in programs that will expand their knowledge of the natural world.
June 21, 2019 – Summer Solstice Sunrise – Gates open at 5:30 a.m.
Join Fort Ancient at 5:30 a.m. on the morning of June 21 in welcoming the first day of summer through this exciting program of observing the sunrise as the Ancient peoples did 2,000 years ago. Watch the sunrise between two walls of earth when aligning yourself between the earthen wall and a stone covered mound. Guests will also learn the importance of Fort Ancient to those who built it between 100BC and AD 500. Program is free to the public, but general admission applies to the museum.
Fort Ancient 1 Day Fossil Camp –June 28, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Ages 9 - adult
Todd Stephenson, a retired geologist and member of the Dry Dredgers Fossil Club will host a one-day experiential camp at Caesar’s Creek on June 28 at 9:00 a.m. There will be a power point lecture in the morning session with ample time for questions and answers as well as general discussions on the topics covered. After lunch, the group will collect fossils at the Caesar’s Creek spillway and actively identify what has been found.
Todd Stephenson was born in Kings Mills, Ohio and earned a B.S. and M.S. Degree in Geology from the University of Cincinnati. A retired petroleum geologist executive, he has worked 36 years in the oil and gas business with assignments in U.S., Canada, Europe, Africa, and South America.
