The University of Dayton Radial Gallery is excited to present CLAY:BODY opening March 4th and running through April 1st, 2021! CLAY:BODY presents a short term experimental project featuring emerging transdisciplinary artists Da’Niro Elle Brown and Jesse James Thompson, both originally from Dayton, Ohio - now based in NYC. Both artists are former students of potter and Curator Geno Luketic.  He invited them, as creative peers, to share their current practices and collaboratively produce an exhibition searching for the intersection of clay and body. The organizational framework of the project is borrowed from the practice of devised theatre where performance is born from improvisation and collaboration. CLAY:BODY is made possible through support from Montgomery County, Culture Works, The Blue House Arts, and the Front Street Global Artist Initiative.

     About the Artists:

Da’Niro Elle Brown (she/her/hers) is a transdisciplinary artist and filmmaker that uses the body as the main material in her work. With an artistic foundation set in film, movement, and sculpture, Da’Niro Elle’s work often takes form as large scale multimedia projects. Da’Niro Elle’s artistic practice at its root is based in her continued exploration of the human form, starting with her own body and narrative. She received her BFA focused in Film, Sculpture, & Performance from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Da’Niro Elle has shown work recently at The Museum of Modern Art, The Gene Siskle Theater, and Golden Thread Gallery. Currently based in Brooklyn NY.

Jesse James Thompson (he/him/his) is a multidisciplinary artist with a practice grounded in photography, documenting the human form. Jesse received his BA in Visual Arts from the University of Dayton and MFA from New York University. Alongside his artistic practice, Jesse also maintains an active modeling career.

Da’Niro and Jesse will be giving a joint artist talk open to the public Friday March 5th 2021 from 1-2pm via zoom. To access the artist talk please click the zoom link below:
