DAYTON, OHIO – May 21, 2019 – On Wednesday, June 5, the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery proudly presents Sloth Tai Chi! What is sloth tai chi, you ask? Well, reflect on the balance, strength, pace, and flexibility of Patience, the Linne’s two-toed sloth; one of the Museum’s favorite Discovery Zoo residents.
Tai Chi is a low-impact, ancient Chinese physical exercise that has been shown to decrease stress. The practice keeps the body in constant, self-paced slow motion that helps increase flexibility and balance. Slow motion is the hallmark of the sloth, who are notorious for taking life at their own pace.
“The art of Tai Chi is easily adapted for anyone, from the most fit to those in wheelchairs,” said Tom Melia, Tai Chi Instructor at the Boonshoft Museum. “It is very safe and it’s easy to get started!”
When combined, the movement of the sloth and the slow, flowing motion of Tai Chi, create a winning combination for meditation in motion.
Join us for an introductory Tai Chi class that will begin with an introduction to Patience, followed by a 45-minute beginner class.
Class Schedule: June 5 | August 7 | October 2 | December 4
Class size is limited to 20 participants, and reservations are required. The class is appropriate for novices, but all registrants must be 16 years of age or older.
