Sue Brezine, a long time member of the Village Artisans Gallery in Yellow Springs, presents a retrospective of her work in watercolors and pastels. Sue is a native Daytonian, and as a child, she studied at the Dayton Art Institute. Her teaching career began after a trip to the University of California, Long Beach to study with Betty Edwards, author of "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain." Sue taught this method at Riverbend Art Center, Dayton, Kettering Adult School, and many other venues, and these classes led to the creation of the workshop, "Sketching Your Spirit," which has been presented to countless religious and professional organizations over the years.

Eventually, her love of Drawing led to a passion for painting in both watercolor and pastels.  Over the years, Sue became quite an accomplished painter.   She received numerous awards for her work, including recognition from the Western Ohio Watercolor Society and "The Artist Magazine."  Sue has also been recognized with many awards throughout the Miami Valley.

She loves drawing and painting birds, animals, birds, and landscapes.  Some of favorite models appear to be Owls, Red birds, Hawks and Ravens.  Some of her work are serious paintings, yet many have a sense of humor to them like one of her watercolors capturing a pig with his snout sticking out a hole in a barn wall.  Still other of her much smaller paintings were playful and funny caricatures of various farm animals like chickens, ducks and pigs that she uses to create many adorable note cards.

Sue has a unique way of drawing and painting things as she saw them, like a painting of a llama with a hairdo that I am sure made her smile.  She helps us see beauty even in the ordinary things in life, like her painting of a boy by a curb in Ireland, an up close view of a cabbage, a golden sea of grasses looking out over a beautiful blue body of water. Sue's art enables us to see through her eyes, so we can experience her subjects as freshly as she does.

Sue was at one time a member of and president of the Fairborn Art Association, president of the Western Ohio Watercolor Society, and a member of Dayton Society of Painters and Sculptors.  Sue retired from a long and successful career of teaching, but Sue says,  "Thank goodness artists never need to really retire".  Sue is still currently a beloved member in the Village Artisans Co-Op Gallery.

Over the years, Sue Brezine studied with many different artists including: Frederick Franck, Betty Edwards, Homer Hacker, Arne Westerman, Judi Betts, Alex Powers, Don Andrews, and others. Each time Sue has returned to her studio and her walks with a more seeing eye looking for her next painting inspiration.

She offers a great variety of works, from note cards to framed award-winning art so please come on out and see some of her wonderful work currently hanging in our Village Artisans Lobby in Yellow Springs.   Sue’s Show will hang from January 8 - March 4.  The Village Artisans is open to the public  Monday – Saturday from 11-5,  and  12-5 on Sunday.
